A Distinctive Front Entry with Round Transom and Big Sidelights
This black iron French door with round transom and big sidelights is designed for front entries that need more light, more shape, and a stronger architectural presence than a standard single door. The large sidelights widen the entry visually, while the round transom adds a softer top detail above the center door.
The lower kickplate gives the design more weight and helps protect the bottom portion of the door from daily entry use. Compared with a full-glass French door, FD278 feels more grounded and more suitable for main front entrances where homeowners want natural light without making the entire door look too exposed.
Each door system is made to order with options for size, finish color, glass type, swing direction, handle style, sidelight width, transom shape, kickplate height, and thermal break upgrades. Free curbside delivery is available across the continental United States.
Who This Door Is Best For:
Front entries that need more light without using a double door
Projects where big sidelights help balance a wider exterior opening
Homes that need a lower kickplate for a stronger front-door look
Traditional, transitional, Mediterranean, or custom homes with shaped entry details
FAQ:
What does the round transom add to the design?
The round transom softens the top of the entry and adds architectural character. It works especially well for homes with curved windows, arched details, or a more traditional front elevation.
Why does this design include a kickplate?
The kickplate gives the lower part of the door more coverage and visual weight. It is useful for front entries where the bottom area may see more daily contact from shoes, packages, pets, or general use.
Are the big sidelights mainly decorative or functional?
They are both. The sidelights make the full entry look wider and more balanced while also bringing more natural light into the foyer.
Is FD278 better for a front entry or patio space?
FD278 is better positioned as a front entry door because of the round transom, big sidelights, and kickplate. It has a more formal entry-door appearance than a patio-focused French door.
