Material & Construction
1. What materials are your iron doors made of?
Our iron doors are crafted with 12–14 gauge steel frames, fully welded for maximum strength, and tempered insulated glass to enhance safety and energy efficiency.
2. Is the door color powder-coated?
For full-size exterior iron doors, powder coating is not a practical solution. The process requires the entire door assembly to be baked in a high-temperature oven (approximately 375–425°F / 190–220°C), which is not suitable for complete iron door systems.
Exterior iron doors are not just metal shells — they also incorporate thermal break layers, insulated glass, and critical sealing components. Exposing these materials to extreme heat can compromise their performance and long-term durability.
Instead of powder coating, our iron doors are finished with a high-quality, multi-layer wet paint system. This process provides excellent weather resistance, richer color depth, and allows for easy touch-ups and maintenance over time.
3. Can your doors withstand coastal or humid environments?
Please rest assured that all our iron doors are made with premium 12-gauge wrought iron and finished with a multi-layer protective coating, including zinc galvanization, primer, and environmentally friendly paint.
This process provides excellent resistance against rust, moisture, and coastal humidity, making the doors highly durable even in seaside environments.
Many of our customers have installed our doors near the ocean. With regular cleaning and basic maintenance, your door will stay beautiful and strong for years to come.
4. Which door should I choose to resist the cold weather?
All our standard iron doors are with basic insulation for energy efficiency, and we will recommend our Thermal Break Iron Doors, including thermal break iron entry doors, thermal break iron french doors and thermal break iron pivot door that can withstand cold winter weather.
5. How do I decide between a standard iron door and a thermal break door?
If you’re located in states such as New York (NY), Michigan (MI), Illinois, or anywhere with harsh winter and summer conditions, adding a thermal break is a must. Please select the thermal break doors from our Thermal Break Doors collection.
If you live in an area with a mild climate, our standard iron doors will be sufficient for your needs.
6. How thick is the iron door?
Our standard non-thermal break iron doors are approximately 1.97 inches thick. For enhanced insulation, our thermal-break iron doors are slightly thicker at approximately 2.05 inches.
7. Do pivot doors require roller catches?
No, roller catches are not required for pivot doors. Well-engineered pivot doors naturally swing back and remain closed on their own due to balanced weight distribution and gravity. The only exception is when the door is opened and held at a full 90-degree position, in which case it may stay open and not self-close.
8. Can I upgrade the door to a thermal break door?
Sure, you can upgrade to a thermal break door for better insulation. Please contact us at info@gloryirondoors.com for the exact pricing.
9. What is Low E glass?
Low-E glass (short for low-emissivity glass) is an energy-efficient glass with a special microscopic coating that helps control heat transfer. It does not change the color of the glass, but under certain lighting it may appear slightly reflective, similar to a soft mirror effect.
Design & Customization
1. Do you accept fully custom designs?
Absolutely. You can send sketches, drawings, or photos, and our design team will create a detailed rendering for your approval.

3. Can I add sidelights or transom?
Sure. You can select to add one sidelight or two sidelights according to your rough opening size.
The transom can be directly connected to your door or installed separately like a fixed window above the door.
4. Is the glass window openable for ventilation?
We offer openable glass windows on our decorative iron doors, allowing you to open them for ventilation and easy cleaning. However, on iron French doors and pivot doors, the glass is fixed to maintain a clean and modern design.
5. What is a bugproofing screen?
The bug-proof screens for our iron doors are diamond-mesh panels attached between the glass window and the iron frame with magnets. They can be easily removed whenever cleaning is needed.
6. Can you do an iron French window that is similar to my door?
Yes, we can make iron windows. Please contact us at info@gloryirondoors.com with your design and size specifications.
Measurement & Installation
1. How do I measure for my iron door?
The door sizes listed on our website refer to the complete door unit, including the jambs, threshold, and door slab(s).
For new construction, please ensure the rough opening is at least 1" wider and 1/2" taller than the door unit size for a proper installation. If you are replacing an existing door, please measure the brick-to-brick width and height first to determine your opening size.
For further details, pls refer to our size guide.
2. Can you help verify my measurements?
Yes, you can send photos and dimensions, and our team will confirm the door unit size for you, and the drawing will be sent to you for approval before production.
3. Do you install the door?
We do not offer the installation service and we strongly recommend you find a local professional installer due to door weight and precision requirements.
4. Do your doors come pre-hung?
Yes. All our iron doors arrive pre-hung with the frame, hinges, sweep, and weatherstripping installed.
5. Can doors be installed on a flat facade without a portico?
Yes, but adding a small awning or overhang helps protect the finish from sun and rain.
6. What is the minimum width for a pivot door?
The minimum width for a pivot door is 40 inches.
💡 Tip: If the door unit size is smaller than 40 inches, we would suggest making the door a single French door or an entry hinged door.
7. Will you come and measure/ install my door?
We specialize in providing iron doors, sorry we do not offer measurement or installation services.
8. What’s the rough opening size for my iron door?
Our door size includes jams and threshold, the rough opening size should be at least 1’’wider and 0.5’’taller than the door unit size.
