Pivot iron doors offer a modern look and smooth opening motion, but many customers wonder whether they are difficult to install. In most cases, the frame installation is similar to a standard iron entry door. The key difference is that the door slab must be carefully aligned with the top and bottom pivot hardware.
Below, we’ll walk through the basic pivot iron door installation process and highlight the key points homeowners and contractors should pay attention to.
Before we begin the installation steps, let’s first go over what is typically included in your door package and the tools you may need.

Step 1--Installing the Jamb
The Jamb should be installed first, without the doors-since it is comparatively light and easy to maneuver in place. There are usually 4 lugs (and sometimes 6) welded to the jamb. These will be bolted into the framing from the inside of the house using the 3 1/2” x 1/2” lag bolts. Important-Initially, Only Fasten the left and right top-most lugs to the framing. This is necessary to allow for some adjustment of the jamb later.

Step 2--Hung the door slab to the Jamb
--If your door has a separate sidelight, please install the sidelight first, and then bolt the pivot door
frame to the side frames of the sidelights. Importantly, please make sure all the frames are square and level during this step.
--Install the door slab, make the holes on the door panel are aligned with hinges on bottom and top.

--Then turn the screw until the hinge is fitted into the pane.
Be sure the panel is aligned with the hinge bottom and top. After the bottom one is set, then turn the top screw until the hinge is fitted into the panel. Be sure the eadbolt lines up properly.

Step 4--Adjustment to the door fit
You can adjust the pivot looser or tighter by the bottom hinge to loosen or tighten the screws.

hinges as needed to ensure door swings nicely and the door and jamb are lined up in all directions.
Install the lock mechanism and pull handles on the Doors.
Secure the door handle latch into the door with screws.
Close the iron door and test the deadbolt and handles.
If you have separate sidelights you will use joining bolts to fix them to the door jamb first. Apply all weather caulking between the sidelights and the jamb before joining. Once joined together, the whole unit is bolted to the house framing as per above instructions.
If you have a separate transom, it is mounted above the door jamb and fastened into the framework just like the door. Install the door jamb first and then the transom. Apply caulking to the bottom of the transom before joining to the door jamb.
A pivot iron door can create a bold and modern entrance, but proper preparation and professional installation are still important for the best result.
