A Compact French Door Layout with One Sidelight
This single iron French door with one sidelight is designed for compact front entries, side entries, and custom exterior openings that need extra natural light without using a full double-door layout. The single active door keeps everyday access simple, while the sidelight adds brightness and visual width to the entry.
Compared with a single door without sidelights, this layout feels more open and balanced. Compared with two-sidelight designs, it is better for narrower openings or asymmetric entry layouts where one side has more available space than the other.
Each door system is made to order with options for size, finish color, glass type, swing direction, handle style, sidelight placement, door top design, and thermal break upgrades. Free curbside delivery is available across the continental United States.
Who This Door Is Best For:
Compact front entries that need more light than a standard single door
Side entries or smaller exterior openings with limited width
Projects that need a custom single iron door with an asymmetric layout
FAQ:
Why choose one sidelight instead of two sidelights?
One sidelight is a better fit for narrower or asymmetric openings. It adds light and width without requiring the space needed for a full two-sidelight door system.
Is FD282 a good option for smaller entries?
Yes. FD282 is well suited for compact front entries, side entries, and custom exterior openings.
Can the sidelight be placed on either side?
Yes. The sidelight placement can usually be customized based on your entry layout, swing direction, and project requirements.
Does the sidelight glass open for ventilation?
For iron French doors, the page specifications state that the glass is fixed. This design should be positioned for natural light and visibility, not ventilation.
